Take Me Out To The Ball Game
Thurs 17th Apr 08, 8.30am
On a happier note from my self-pitying whining, I managed to tick off a major "To Do" action whilst in LA. We got ourselves down to Dodger Stadium to watch a baseball game.
Apart from some whooping idiots and walking the entire circumference of the stadium to find the car on the way home the experience was great. The place holds 56,000 and even though only half full had an electric atmosphere. The two scoreboards were the size of an IMAX screen -- there were even stats screens in the outfield boarding. The game itself was a walkover (LA Dodgers 11 - San Diego Padres 1) but it didn't matter, it was a case of soaking up the sights, sounds and smells. The crowd all sang along to "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" midway through (the 7th innings stretch).
And as you'd expect from the Yanks the catering options were bewildering. At the KC you get a couple of hatches per stand, understaffed by Johnny No-Stars feckwits, causing huge queues. Here the whole back wall of the stand was one type of food after another. And you didn't even have to leave your seat, with mobile food wallahs throwing food to the lazy gannets around us - the peanut guy threw bags 6 rows away, with the money being passed back along the row. Imagine that at Anfield! It'd start off as a fiver and reach him as a couple of buttons and a bottletop...
They came round with coke, peanuts, ice cream, even mini-pizzas!
